The Outstanding Teaching Assistant Programme - OTAP

Event Code MSTA1920/323
Event type Course
Event description Poplar Primary School will be running the OTAP programme for teaching assistants in the Autumn term 2019. This is an Olevi course. They also designed the ITP Developing Teachers programme and the course is run along similar
lines.
This programme is designed for teaching assistants who are, or have the potential to be outstanding in their roles. It is an opportunity to further improve the practice of the TA. The course
will enable TAs to have more involvement in teaching and learning. There must be a coach for each delegate appointed from their own school to coach delegates between sessions and to allow for the Post Session Challenges to be undertaken. The coach should come to the first session.

The role of the coach is to support
the TA back in school. They will need to make time to drop in with the delegate regularly and discuss the session and targets as well as ensuring the delegate has the resources they need to complete the post session task.
Introducing sustainable improvement in schools is much more effective in a three, so we suggest three delegates
attend together. We offer a possible action plan on the last session which would mean that the OTAP delegates could support new TAs back in their schools.
